Q: Can the Bali-Sumba-Bali plane tickets be booked beforehand from my travel agency?
A: Tickets for Pelita and Merpati are best purchased in Bali. Our contact person can do that for you and deliver the tickets to your hotel once you have arrived. Pelita is recommended strongly over Merpati.

Q: Do you organise transportation from Waingapu, Sumba to Manggudu Island?
A: There are cars from Hotel Merlin waiting at the airport and we recommend using them, as they are the most helpful and reliable. Just ask for Hotel Merlin once you have your luggage, and tell the driver that you are going to Manggudu.

Q: How long does it take from Waingapu to Manggudu Island?
A: The trip to Katundu takes 4 hours and the road is a scenic route going over a small mountain range. Our boat will be waiting for you to take you to Manggudu. The boat trip takes only 45 minutes and costs approximately 40USD.

Q: Do we need to organise transportation for the return trip ourselves?
A: You can ask the Merlin driver to come and pick you up from Katundu the same morning of the return flight back to Bali.We can also call Hotel Merlin from the island if you want to change plans.

Q: Is there access to the internet and mobile coverage?
A: No, mobile phones work only in Waingapu, where there is also an internet café.

Q: Is there any way to reach my family and friends or can I be reached?
A: There is a satellite phone on the island. It is, however, turned on during the evening when the generator is on (approximately 6 pm-11 pm local time). Be aware that the calls to the satellite phone are quite expensive. Tel: 62-868-1211 5296

Q: Is there a shop?
A: No, you need to bring enough gear, hygiene products, film, batteries, cigarettes, snacks etc. with you.

Q: Are you able to recharge batteries for video camera's at the island?
A: The generator runs in the evenings when you can recharge batteries.

Q: Is Malaria a problem on Manggudu?
A: There are no mosquitos on Manggudu, but it is advisable to have some preventative medicine with you, as there is malaria on Sumba. Please consult your doctor. Mosquito nets are in the rooms however.

Q: Can we rent surfboards?
A: There are a few minimals for rent at 10USD/day.

Q: What is the weather like?
A: Manggudu Island and Sumba have the most days of sunshine in Indonesia as the rainy season is shorter there than in most areas of the country. The SE tradewinds keep the temperature at comfortable levels, it will not get too hot during the day. Nights are cooler (not cold), but blankets are provided for. Manggudu Island Resort is closed during February and March, when there are strong winds and heavy rains.
