First trip to Manggudu 1998 Big surf without the crowds

MANGGUDU LEFT

Manggudu’s surf is very consistent and picks up all swell in the ocean and a little more. The reef is large and the wave is best described as "Sunset-like". After peaking, it will bowl through hollow sections or just wall off right from the take-off, depending on swell direction. The peaks shift with tide movements and because of the solid size bigger boards are recommended. The SE trades are straight offshore and the wave works with all tides.

Season: April-October

MANGGUDU RIGHT

At the eastern end of the island breaks a long and hollow right hander with the wet season W winds. It works mostly during the latter months of the year, but you can also surf it early in the morning in April-May and Sept-Oct before the wind picks up. The righthander is more forgiving than the left, easier to surf and works well even when it is smaller. At bigger size, the waves and tubes can be extremely long.

SEASON APRIL & MAY, SEPTEMBER TO JANUARY

KIDDIE´S CORNER

A bend in the reef in front of the bungalows gives beginners a chance at practicing surfing. Only surfable at high tides, so it is not a consistent wave, but there are boards that can be rented.
